Within the BONEBANK project, an innovative value chain for clinical harvesting and use of mesenchymal stem cells during routine fracture surgeries will be developed and implemented.
01.09.2015 - 31.08.2020
BONEBANK is supported by Interreg Deutschland-Danmark with funds from the European Regional Development Fund. Find out more about Interreg Deutschland-Danmark at www.interreg5a.eu.
Material from surgeries like bone marrow, blood and stem cells is discarded.
Mesenchymal stem cells are isolated from the harvested material and stored in a cross-border biobank. These cells offer a high-quality resource for the patients themselves, other patients and research facilities in universities and industry.

BONEBANK aims at following options of usage of bone marrow stem cells and project results:
BONEBANK combines existing expertise of the German and Danish project partners in the fields of stem cell research, medical technology, trauma centres and biobank operators on both sides of the border. This leads to a unique value chain within the region, from innovative harvesting of bone marrow stem cells, via storage in a cross-border biobank to usage in regional research facilities and companies. The project forms an important innovation platform for the development of new medical products and therapies for regenerative medicine. Furthermore, it contributes to the improvement of research and development expenses in the programme region.
