The Hygiene, Infection & Health (HIHeal) project’s objective is to establish a cross-cluster network in the fields of hygiene, infection and health along a common value chain between the Clusters of Gesundheitswirtschaft Hamburg GmbH and Life Science Nord Management GmbH.
HIHeal networks stakeholders in this field, including companies, scientific institutions, clinics and cost units in Hamburg. In addition to emerging diseases such as Ebola, EHEC and MERS, they also tackle such topics as nosocomial infections (hospital-acquired infections), with accompanying challenges such as antibiotic resistance and hygiene measures.
Hygiene and infections are highly relevant to society, politics, science and the economy. Microbiological and pharmaceutical research is the basis for understanding various infection mechanisms. Better hygiene measures can prevent infection and the restricted use of antibiotics can stop resistance.

The HIHeal Project is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the City of Hamburg.
