The Hanseatic Life Science Research Infrastructure Consortium (HALRIC) is an EU-supported initiative, which aims to be a springboard for innovation capacity in the ÖKS-Hamburg Life Science sector via increased access to and use of cross-border front-end technologies, instruments, expertise, and data handling solutions.

Research infrastructures are important enablers for innovation in the life sciences. Northern Europe, especially the Öresund Kattegat Skagerrak (ÖKS)-Hamburg area, possesses a unique life science research landscape, which has seen significant investments during the past decade. The facilities already provide advanced Life Science tools, but there is an untapped potential to further expand the collaboration at and around the sites, as well as cross-borders.

The main objective of this initiative is to foster collaboration between companies, hospitals, and large-scale research infrastructures (MAX IV, ESS, EuXFEL, and DESY) and smaller-scale infrastructures, by supporting up to 75 collaborative pilot projects, as well as strengthening the collaboration among the life science ecosystems and foster strategic dialogues in the HALRIC region. The Hanseatic Science Cloud, an additional facet of HALRIC, will enable users to handle large and complex datasets from research infrastructures and, thus, uncover the full innovation potential of the ÖKS-Hamburg Region.
