Life Science Nord is the regional host of BIO Europe 2019 in Hamburg

At Europe’s largest life science partnering conference BIO Europe (BEU) in Copenhagen, Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein were represented along with various companies on the North German joint stand. At the end of the conference, this year’s host Copenhagen Capacity handed over the baton to Life Science Nord to organize the 25th BIO Europe from 11 to 13 November 2019. For the third time, the Life Science Nord Cluster will be the "regional host" of the successful partnering format BIO Europe. The event was already held in Hamburg in 2007 and 2012.

The most important meeting place for the biotech industry

"The conference will once again offer an opportunity to showcase Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein as an attractive and cosmopolitan region for life sciences to more than 4,000 top representatives of the biotech and pharma industry," explains Dr. Hinrich Habeck, the Cluster Manager and Managing Director of Life Science Nord Management GmbH. BIO Europe offers a good opportunity for the industry players in Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg to demonstrate their expertise to international industry representatives and develop new business options and cooperation opportunities.

A varied program

Attendance numbers have grown steadily since 2012, indicating that this conference model has a bright future. About 4,400 participants from 61 countries are expected to attend the three-day event, which will be held on the Hamburg Messe site in 2019. One-to-one meetings are the key feature of BIO Europe. These are pre-arranged on an online partnering platform - more than 28,000 times at this year's conference. A large part of the space is therefore taken up by hundreds of partnering booths in which confidential discussions - for example on potential business deals or cooperation projects - take place. Traditionally, the conference kicks off with a welcome reception, at which attendees get to meet each other for the first time in a larger setting. During BIO Europe, participants can also meet at the industry exhibition with the joint North German stand or at numerous evening networking events. BIO Europe also offers a program of talks with big name speakers.

Support from industry and politics

"BIO Europe is established as the biotech and pharma industry's largest B2B event," explains Life Science Nord Marketing Director Damir Pavkovic. "We therefore quickly received commitments from local companies to sponsor the conference and support our role as host cluster region." BIO Europe 2019 sponsors include Evotec AG, Indivumed GmbH and Nordmark GmbH & Co. KG. Political support has also already been promised by the federal states Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein.

About BIO Europe

BIO Europe (BEU) is held each year at different venues in Europe and is the most important partnering conference for the biotechnology and pharma industry. Delegates from all parts of the value chain meet at BIO Europe to identify cooperation partners on a targeted and organized basis and enter into strategic relationships to drive their business forward successfully. This involves the use of an internet-based partnering system which allows delegates to set up one-to-one meetings ahead of the event. In addition, there is a conference program on the latest scientific and financial developments as well as an accompanying industry exhibition. There are further opportunities for networking at a range of evening events and special events offered by the organizer, sponsors and the host region. BIO Europe is organized by EBD Group, the leading partnering company for the global life science industry. The software system developed by EBD is considered to be the gold standard for virtual partnering and is also used for events of other companies throughout the world.
